PASSPORTS:
1.) How long is a Kenyan passport valid?
Kenyan passports are typically valid for ten (10) years. Expired passports must be renewed before travel.
2.) When should I renew my passport?
You are advised to renew your passport before expiry — ideally several months before planned Contact the Embassy for guidance on obtaining a replacement passport or Emergency travel — to avoid delays.
3.) What happens if I lose my passport abroad?
- Report the loss to the local police and obtain a police report.
- Travel Document. Keep copies of your lost passport to speed up processing.

ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION (ETA) AND TRAVEL TO KENYA:
1.) What is the Kenya eTA and do I need it?
The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an online entry requirement for most foreign visitors to Kenya. All travellers, including children, must obtain an approved eTA before travel unless exempt.
2.) How do I apply for an eTA?
To apply for an eTA, visit the official Government of Kenya eTA portal: https://www.etakenya.go.ke
and complete the online application.
3.) What documents are required for an eTA application?
Common requirements include:
- Valid passport (with at least six months validity beyond intended arrival)
- Recent passport-type photo or “selfie”
- Contact details (email/telephone)
- Travel itinerary
- Proof of accommodation or invitation details
- Payment method (credit/debit card)
Additional documents may apply depending on purpose of visit (business, medical, family etc.).
4.) How long does eTA processing take?
Most applications are processed within three (3) working days. Apply early to avoid delays.
5.) Can families or groups apply together?
Each traveller must have an individual eTA. Families can apply together through the online portal.

7.) How long is an eTA valid?
Typically, an eTA remains valid for 90 days from the date of issue. Enter Kenya within this period.
8.) Is the eTA valid for multiple entries?
Standard eTAs are for single entry only. However, if you travel from Kenya to another East African Community (EAC) partner state and return, the same eTA remains valid.
9.)Are there any exemptions from eTA requirements?
Yes. Exemptions generally include:
- Kenyan citizens
- Kenyan permanent residents and holders of valid passes
- UN travel document holders
- Citizens of East African Community member states
- Transit passengers who do not leave the airport or vessel precincts
- Crew members of aircraft, ships, or other carriers
- Certain other official/diplomatic exemptions may apply

Does the Embassy issue Certificates of No Impediment to Marriage?
Yes. The Embassy processes Certificates of No Impediment to Marriage for Kenyan citizens planning to marry abroad. Additional documentation may be required.
EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE:
